Camel, Battle of the...

A decisive engagement fought in 656 near al-Basra between Caliph Ali and ‘A’isha, the widow of Muhammad, and her supporters, who rebelled against Ali after the murder of Uthman, the previous caliph. Ali was victorious when the camel ridden by ‘A’isha was hamstrung and she was captured.
